Predictable Chaos

Magic in d&d is a bit. . . Odd to me. Specifically the fact that it can be depicted as a source of chaos and unpredictable danger, however casting a spell will always yield the same results (with a few exceptions). With how magic is drawn from so many sources (Land, bloodlines, and the universe itself), it is odd that there is neither any difference between the classes when determining a spells effect. Magic seems as if to be more of a science in d&d rather than anything else. This could be changed with more randomness when casting higher power spells. It also could be a more interesting way to balance casters, making their spells less predictable as a trade off for their power.

Sounds like you might want a different system. The one I'm running right now uses a dice pool of d6s, and stuff goes wrong if you roll double or triples, it's good fun.

I mean not every spell in Dungeons and Dragons that's the same effect believe me when I say a Eldridge fateful arcane blasts is a lot different to a level one soul spear they will all have weird and bizarre effects and mostly chaos magic is made for people that belong in the chaos alignment in a way because it is considered against certain schools of magic
