A rabbi and a pastor
There were once a rabbi and a pastor who shared a strong friendship. One day, the rabbi looked at the pastor and said: “How do you stay so round? It’s like your community keeps feeding you!” The pastor chuckled and replied: “Not at all! I have my own trick when I go to restaurants.” Curious, the rabbi asked: “What’s your trick?” The pastor explained: “When I’m at a restaurant, I eat like there’s no tomorrow. Then, when the bill arrives, I confidently say, ‘Oh, I’ve already taken care of it.’ The waiter responds, ‘Sir, I’m afraid you haven’t paid.’ Then I say, ‘You wouldn’t question the word of a man of the cloth, would you?’ At that point, the waiter often backs off, saying, ‘My apologies, Father, we must have made an error.’ And I just smile and say, ‘Well, that’s a bit devilish!’” The next day, inspired by his friend, the rabbi went to a kosher restaurant. He feasted like there was no tomorrow and, when the bill came, proclaimed: “No need for that; I’ve already paid!” The waiter replied: “Actually, sir, you haven’t settled the bill. Here it is.” The rabbi, taken aback, stood up and said: “What? You doubt the word of a rabbi?” The waiter quickly responded: “Oh no, we didn’t mean to imply that…” The rabbi sat back down, waiting patiently. Minutes turned into half an hour, then three-quarters, and eventually an hour passed. Finally, the waiter returned and asked: “Is there a problem, sir?” The rabbi replied: “Yes, there is a problem. I’m still waiting for my change!”
