if your hobbies aren't like the ones of the others, you might actually get cool points. "My hobby is hiking." - not bad, but... a lot of people do it and there isn't anything to make a follow-up talk "I like gothic-themed music." - okay, this isn't that common, it's something I don't know anything about. Tell me more about it I don't think different hobbies matter that much, it's more like a side-quest to discover and might be helpful to develop any kind of relationship (friend/partner/whatever). A friend of mine listened to death metal and I gave it a try. I didn't like that kind of metal that much, but it was a nice experience though. Me not liking it didn't impact our relationship at all 🤷‍♂️

I go the opposite way, if an aspect of who I am is going to disappoint someone I prefer to get that out of the way up front. I want the connection to be solid, if it isn't that's ok. It's easier in the long run for those things to be known prior to there being any sort of attachment.
