Work And Dating

I always get customers at my job flirting with me or asking me out. I always say no thanks. I wont ever date a customer. I keep my work and personal life separate. How do you deal with this at your work place? Does it make you uncomfortable or flattered?

I think it depends on what you do for work. If you're in anything revolving around retail or customer service via restaurants and fast food, I don't see what the issue would be with dating a "customer." Working in Sales, marketing, and any other white collared field, I can understand the separation.

In general I don't flirt with customers, there is an imbalance in power when you work in a job where you are the most popular person in the room just because you work there. There is a but though. Sometimes you really connect and talk about stuff and it just clicks without flirting really. I would hate myself if I wouldn't act on that.

I have a horrible crush on someone at my work, and I alternate between trying to make light conversation and trying to avoid them out of fear of making them feel uncomfortable. It's a horrible situation to be in because I understand the optics of it and don't really ever have plans of telling this person, and I would be mortified if they ever somehow found out.

My customers are largely men so this hasn’t been an issue. Now, I work in a small mountain town where the locals like to just hang out at my work at times and some of the local woman have taken a shine to me in occasion through that. For me, it is less about it occuring at work and more my own lack of interest in them, too. I only have had one woman customer actually express interest amd ever since she is now married anyway so even there, nope. Largely the women who come in are chatty and some are flirty but I just take it as them being friendly. I would say it has not been a problem. I am neother uncomfortable nor flattered. People just being people I feel.
