How do you feel when someone says “I’ll pray for you” when you have not asked them too nor indicated that you need prayer? I find people who tend to say this to be condescending and a wee bit arrogant and disrespectful. While I understand that they may think it’s coming from good intentions, more often than not I feel like it isn’t. So what are your thoughts? Do you like or hate it when people give you unsolicited prayer?

I agree with you. Often it's being used as a veiled criticism of your lifestyle or other choice you've made. Like, you're sinning so I'm praying for your soul. In the case where it genuinely seems to be a way of wishing me well - fine. They're wasting their breath but I appreciate the thought.

It depends on whether it's genuine or not. I feel like people who are religious or act religious will say things like that to encourage or give a false sense of such. Whether they actually do so is up in the air. The best policy is to offer to pray for them right then and there, if the person says it's okay. "Thoughts and prayers" is probably the one of the most annoying things to come from the last decade.

I see this as it is going on inside themselves. Selfish and taker. Trying to make themselves look good. Instead of actually offering what do you need from me right now and doing it. They say that so they don’t have to do anything and appear wholesome. Covertly being all about them. Because seriously?? If you need them why don’t they simply say what can I do?
