The Awkward Moments when Thinking vs Feeling

My last ex is an INFP. He asked me this question on one of our dates - do you feel it? Then stared at me smiling. In my mind: what is ‘it’? Feel what? I’m not feeling anything. Well, great, I can’t say things like that aloud, can I? I don’t even know you. I’m still trying to know who you are. If we’re talking about politics, I may feel something, but we’re not exchanging thoughts right now. What do you want?… Te: say whatever that can end this conversation! Me: Sure? (Awkward smile)

That was an invitation to share whatever emotional state you might have had (without more context). Asking "which 'it' do you mean?" is a way to get a clearer definition of what they're meaning. For example, I said something similar recently, but I added "I know pretty quickly when I meet someone IRL if I'm physically attracted to them, and well, you definitely hit the mark. What about you?"

That question would throw me off too. It's too vague. Especially when I'm still trying to get to know the person..There are definitely better questions to ask. If he wanted to know how you felt about him he should've asked that directly.
