I made a new friend yesterday. They were really cool and, much to my surprise, reached out to me first as opposed to the other way around. Usually I’m the one expressing interest and taking the initiative, so to be on the other side of that interaction for once really warmed my heart. It was late so we had to table our ongoing conversation, but I left things feeling genuinely excited for having met someone so interesting that I could relate to. I woke up the next morning and they were gone. All of their messages and posts seem to have vanished and I’m just left wondering if I had done something wrong. If they deleted their account or unmatched me of their own accord then I don’t begrudge them as I’m sure they had their reasons, but it’s the uncertainty of it all that’s eating away at me. So much potential for what could have been such a fulfilling friendship, all faded away in the blink of an eye. It’s stupid, I know, but it’s made me realize how bad I am at dealing with loss. I get attached to people so easily, see so much good in them, that I end up falling to pieces whenever they have to go away. Like I said, it’s stupid, but I’ve been legitimately dejected all day today at the thought of losing something so potentially beautiful. This isn’t a healthy way of going about life, I’m well aware, but I just can’t seem to rid myself of these soul attachments. We barely even started to know each other and yet I’m still so sad. I hope that, wherever they are, they’re okay. Genuinely, I wish them nothing but the best and would still love to be their friend if fate allowed for it. If not, then I guess that’s just something I’ll have to live with. It’s something I’ve always had to live with, and it never gets easier. Oh and, Xenya, if you’re reading this, I thought your accent was really charming and I know you’ll be a great psychologist someday. Take care.

I think that for many of us, just the idea of "oh! This could be a new friend/relation/whatever" automatically triggers many happy lights, simply because it's something that almost never happens. The usual is more like a feeling of loneliness, of rejection, so we want to believe "oh, new person, yay!" right away. And when it doesn't work it hurts even more.

With regards to connecting quick and feeling extreme pain to losing someone, I feel ya. Being a sensitive soul can be difficult in this world, especially since not everyone views connections in the same way. I don't respect ghosting either; much prefer if I'm told to the face the reason for leaving :) but we can't control the actions of others, and can only deal with ourselves. I hope you'd recover from this one named Xenya, and find peace in your heart to carry on. Continue being yourself and hopefully one day you'd meet similar friends who would support you in best way.
