Software developers, are you afraid?

I’m a developer for 10 years now and the topic about AI taking our jobs is currently one of the most relevants in our area. Are you afraid about it? Honestly, seeing how AI works and using it everyday for work, I’m not afraid at all. What about you? How do you see it?

I'm not afraid of it nor do I use it in my work because it's net negative in terms of time to get something working from it. (edited)

Bout to become a prompt engineer 😂

Nope, not afraid at all. I think it will augment our jobs more than anything. It's fun to watch it be so confident about wrong answers too! But yeah I am not sure how they could possibly train LLMs to know my personality and how I work best, etc. And they are limited by what they are trained on.

I have a degree in computer science. Jobs are hard to get. I have a low wage factory job until I can get something in tech. I program stuff using AI as a hobby, but I feel like my career done for. Its been two years applying for tech jobs and now I get told that I'm not current enough.

Yep terrified don't join the field if you're not already. I mean yeah it doesnt work 100% of the time, yeah it can't set things up on the back end, yeah it can't use low code tools...what was the question again. As long as you're an actual dev, and learn how code works you'll be fine.

The problem is not about developer jobs being replaced. The technology will reach there if millions continue to be spent in it. The problem is the economic system and wealthy people realising that there needs to exist a distribution of wealth without the typical time/money relation.

It still needs a lot of prompting. We take leverage of it to convert from one language to another.
