I am not too fond of the premise: money/ greed corrupts people. Money itself is a social construct, the material in which products, services, and power is exchanged. It in itself is an agreed form of power. Also, the premise itself takes away the onus of one's own cultivation. That people become bad people because they gain power, not that they can now act on impulses they couldn't before as they now have the security of that power. "Life is not even worth a penny today" is a vague statement that can be interpreted many different ways. Taken at face value, it could literally be true: it's not possible to care for every single person; there are 7.8~ billion humans. Most of these people we won't ever meet, and lots of them we could also despise. So, how can we trust in the world? That's a difficult question. (已编辑)
