From a nihilist/atheist perspective I believe the answer to that question is probably no, especially from a utilitarian perspective. If human happiness is indeed what is considered most moral in the world than necessarily so it outweighs truth. From a theist perspective I believe the answer has to be yes given it necessarily believes in some kind of objective truth outside of human flourishing. It depends mainly on what your philosophy prioritises, if you believe human happiness is what is moral and most important, then you must subligate truth. If you believe however in the pursuit of truth as an end in itself - think a philosophy you'd find more around the 1700s, then yes truth does indeed matter, however ultimately even then it is focused on the human perception of what "truth" is.

Everyone values different things and in different ways, based upon their own experiences, views and opinions. I agree that most people will seek comfort over truth, but this doesn't make truth invaluable. There are a lot of people willing to challange their own views and seek the truth, in various degrees. I think of myself as one of them. For me, truth is valuable. Interesting even. Yes, I will form my own opinions that might not hold the whole truth, but offer a more comforting idea instead, that is easier for me to accept at the moment. I'm only human. Being completely detached from our subjective views is impossible, as we all have an ego. But I would even argue that this makes truth even more valuable, at least to me, as it's often something to accept after I realized my shortcomings, rather than something that I will universally agree with the moment I encounter it.

At least to me truth is probably one of the most valuable things, I'd rather be told the truth about everything than be delusional for the rest of my life.

I'd say so. Maybe not in an economic sense, but we still need truth, just like we need air and water and love. Humans have never been good at embracing change, or dealing with discomfort and pain. But those that do are invariably stronger for it. One must also remember that the loud minority is just that: a minority. Many, many people embrace truth, they just don't shout it and shove it down people's throats.

The one flaw in your question is “most people”. This applies to us all. But can truth and self preservation not coexist? In order to eliminate self preservation, we would need to change our own humanity. Which can potentially also lead to the extinction of human species. Would that be a wise thing to do? I don’t actually see any issue in staying in our “comfort zone”. Because we can also be humans and still seek truth. However, even what is the truth is a difficult matter. We don’t have THE truth. Of anything. We only have small truths within a particular system that enables further examination of that particular notion. Even the idea that we somehow can perceive reality is… questionable. While we can be in search of truth, i would still ask “can we truly perceive reality as is, and not only through our own limited perspective?”

Good question, but it is up to each person to live by them. I am more in balance. I can handle the truth but also take some comfort. I do not mind other peoples mentality cause it dosent matter to me and i do not wanna know. So i live in ignorance (sounds like a red flag by some ppl but i do not wanna drag myself in a bottomleds pit again by other peoples negative aspects)

Yes. Truth, in essence, is intrinsically necessary to the existence from which anything else exists or can even view itself to even ask a question. (which technically, in a way, is the most valueable thing in existence, as it is existence itself.) Regardless of any individual ego, truth will always be the foundation of existence, even if ignored. 🤔🤷🏻 (edited)

Even though there are a multitude of people that will always prefer the comfort of a lie. There are growing amounts of people seeking truth, who have put off being controlled by everything they were raised to believe. As they do so they strive to find out truth. Some look thru many different opinions and trains of thought, and some feel it out for themselves, what speaks to them. In that truth can be subjective, as far as we are aware, and until we are.
