Fun Fact

We always learn about Hunter and Gatherers in history and how women were gatherers and men were hunters. HOWEVER, that was the modern and biased interpretation of the historical records by a male dominated archeological field that didn't deem women to be useful as gatherers. They basically didn't acknowledge that both men and women did both the job of a hunter and a gatherer, this was to survive. Ancient times did not have the concept of "feminine" or "masculine". Different tribes worked differently, many worked in a system of shifts and others worked in assigned roles but those roles were never gender based but based on skill instead. Hunters needed to have the skill to track, trap and kill, which only the most skilled women and men were assigned to. Whereas Gatherers needed immense knowledge in herbs, what had medicinal purposes, what could be used to cook and what was poisonous. This was generally taught to most but the most promising were given that role.

Yeah, the agricultural revolution did so much to establish gender and class roles. Not to mention living close to animals and having a single crop that you grew meant that diet, health, and overall life expectancy took a huge nosedive when we invented farming and didn’t recover for hundreds of years. What is best for a society at large is not always best for its citizens

Its almost sad that humans were most equal when we were most undeveloped.

Wow! Do you have any bibliography on the absence (and hopefully emergency) of gender-based work differentiation?
