The Piano Lesson (2024/ English/ Netflix) Review
Part of the famous playwright August Wilson's plays from the Pittsburgh Cycle series (along with Fences/ 2016 and Ma Rainey's Black Bottom/ 2020), this film focuses on a confrontation over a piano which is a symbol of resilience and struggle. Despite the inclusion of veterans like Samuel L. Jackson and Michael Potts, the film belongs to Danielle Deadwyler, who fights her internal and external demons as Berniece in the pursuit of leading a peaceful life, somewhere in Pittsburg. Watch it for a gentle take on racism, and as a lesson on adapted screenplays.
