In a recent experience, I met a woman irl whom I immediately had chemistry with. I developed an intense crush on her and fantasized about her being the one (even deleted my dating apps after the first date, LOL). After hanging with her some more, she let me know she was only looking for friendship. In the past I’ve gotten pretty upset about this, to the point where I can’t actually handle my feelings around the other person, and I end up acting out or disconnecting completely. But NOT THIS TIME. I am sure there are more than a few friendships I’ve destroyed by getting butthurt about something I can’t control. This is new territory for me. What about you?

You can but that doesn't mean you should be, if you're going to feel pain when they start dating someone else or you're hoping deep down inside they develop the same feelings for you. Then you should cut off contact with them because being friends with someone you're inlove with will just lead to heart ache in the future, it may not happen immediately and you may think you can do it but trust me it won't end well. So in short only be friends if you are happy to always just be a friend if not move on.
