Regarding wearing different "masks" and "hats" around different groups of people and why it ultimately doesn't matter...

I have two sides of my personality and who I am: The one people THINK I am; quiet, shy, weak, soft, simple-minded, mild-mannered, etc. The other, is the TRUE me that almost no one knows, who is no-nonsense, intelligent, a problem-solver, a bit cynical, misanthropic, wanting a better world than the one I'm stuck in, a realistic dreamer, charitable, tougher than anyone thinks, and so on. I used to try to show the world the true me despite the misconceptions and stereotypes people always formed and assumed, but no one would ever pay attention. Nowadays, I just let them keep getting things wrong about me and underestimating me. Then, when I surpass them in life, or shock them, or do something they weren't expecting, they act all surprised, as if they really thought they knew me, or had any intention on actually getting to know me, to begin with. That's what I learned about people: No matter what you do or how hard you try, people are going to think whatever they want about you and form their own inaccurate, or accurate, opinions, no matter what. You're not as in-control of your reputation as you think. That's why I've learned to never care too much about what people who aren't in my inner circle (which is rather small) think of me, and neither should you. Be the most accurate you, you can be. Try to be the person YOU can be proud of, even if no one else around you approves of it. Because if people can't ever see the real you through your own actions and behavior, their blindness isn't of your concern.
