There was a technique used by Dali to increase this. He would hold a spoon and as he drifted off his grip would relax and the spoon would drop waking him. It put him right in that dream state and he'd be more creative and remember what he saw. I believe Edison did something similar.

I can’t say any dreams influence my creativity when it comes to art or writing. Although I did as a kid have one very strange dream, one which I didn’t want to lose memory of just from how out there it was, so I ended up drawing it while it was still fresh on my mind before it was gone that morning and made it almost like a comic book to show my family. Lol
