Can I get some advice?

So I moved into my house a few year ago and found a roof slate in my back garden, didnt think much of it until I started wood turning then I noticed something. I'll post other related images as comments but this pattern is perfectly flat within the slate itself. And is repeated somewhat on the rear of the slate. I found a similar pattern in a peice of wood I made into a dice holder and a few bowls so my question would be could this be fossilized wood in slate or a natural coincidence in different materials? (edited)
