Old Manโ€™s Beard

Not a lot of foraging in winter where I am. Not a lot of snow, but there were a handful of windy days. Was able to snag some usnea fallen from nearby spruce. Very good for topical applications after infusing with oil.

NYC

Foraging in the middle of the city can be tricky. But I like to forage in Prospect Park. Found a variety of mushrooms including oysters and chicken of the woods. Garlic mustard, burdock root.

Foraged camas blooming

I planted three ส”รญส”txสทaส” (this app won't allow Salish, but I am obstinate) last year. All three bulbs sprouted, only this baby bloomed. I foraged to eat, but did not find the time to bake them. Naturally, I planted them in my apartment garden. This is an important food plant to us.

FUNGI! Specifically lions mane. When I forage, I mostly look for mushrooms, but also grab berries and medicinal Pam to.

First time finding chanterelles in the wild

Got to go foraging for wild mushrooms with an experienced guide. It was an amazing experience, and something I've been trying to cross off my bucket list for years now. Found Slippery Jack's, Boelettes, russalas, and chanterelles, which were delicious.

Devilโ€™s Club

Cousin of panax ginseng, devilโ€™s club grows in the northwest of the United States. Prolific in Alaska and used for a host of medicinal applications, I harvest the green inner cambium, dry the pieces, then either infuse oil with the bark for salves or enjoy it as a tea. Steeped in milk, it can makeโ€ฆ read more

Any recipes for Bidens Alba (Spanish Needle/ Beggar Tick)

It is a prevalent weed here and while I nibble the younger leaves and have thought about eventually trying a curry stir fry I just canโ€™t think of much to make it less bitter. During the summer it is so abundant it seems a waste not to utilize it more. It also has medicinal properties.
