Frankly I've had to say about the same. Except the guy said "we are supposed to be best friends, talk to me" and I had to point out that I'd known him for a month, most of the time his response to a message was "gotcha", I didn't have the mental energy to keep picking that ball up and throwing it back and I already have eight people I consider best friends and they've earned the spot, he hadn't. Sometimes you need straight talk to stop a conversation in its tracks.

Well, out of the context of the whole conversation, really there is not much that can be honestly evaluated. That being said, at least when asked directly, the answer came and was forthright, but you wonder if the problem could not have been brought earlier in a much gentler way. Again, going there would ask for more than just this snapshot. Still not walking away ghosting, just maybe not delivered with a bit of kindness.
