The Will -- in the philosophy of the mind we are familiar with the two mental phenomenon of the psychological properties of cognitive (thinking) and affective (feeling) processes. There is a third though, one often overlooked but perhaps most important. The psychological faculty/part of the mind of conative aka doing, aka the Will. It is applying mental energy of an attentive purpose, volition, willpower. It is the inner force and drive reflected by out disposition and actions. It is self control, self awareness, and deferred from experience and intuition. If we are to categorize out essential being as mind and body, with feeling being heart and soul, then conation would be our spirit. It is attitude, mood, and unwavering conviction to our goals. If we attune to our will it becomes a powerful force. Personal magnetism or charisma may even be an aspect of it, for those with magnetism most often are those with great self confidence, composure or disposition. Even those lacking such magnetism can achieve a profound sense of self by delving into the psyche involving the Will, and self realization and self actualization can be achieved...awareness and self control and determination are more important than many think, as rationality and deductive reasoning are held in a much higher standard. By what good is thinking and understanding without motive to follow through and achieve our determined goals and purpose?
