Sloths 🦥
Hey. I was wondering, can the sloths be considered lazy? Or being lazy sloth would actually mean being active and not perform it’s slothiness daily activities… what defines laziness? In my opinion to be lazy you really have to have options not to. Right? I think I am being lazy only when I actually can do stuff. And sloths do not have that option. They have to freaking conserve their limited energy to survive. So why is this magnificent animal is a symbol for laziness? Also… there must be a point in time in evolution, when ancestors of sloths were maybe few different species, one of which were more active. And because of this antilaziness this particular species haven’t survived… or evolved into something else. Could that be the case? And where am I going with this? No idea. But … thoughts?

It’s a great thinking, you are right about taking an evolutionary path and saying that laziness is a human defined subjective term. Objectively if we closely see the sloth behaviour you will start seeing all the behavioural pattern which is required for its survival. Presently the behaviour (that you see) is adapted towards their environment, if that wasn’t the case, either they would get extinct or we wouldn’t observe the current behaviour. So your line of reasoning on evolutionary path is correct. So let’s forget the human bias and start to observe and admire the beauty of sloth behaviour. We don’t have to see the nature through human lens if we start to use the power of science and imagination.. that’s my quote 😂😂
