Rate the Film: Star Wars Episode I: The Phantom Menace
Where would you rate Star Wars Episode I: The Phantom Menace? Feel free to express your thoughts and opinions in the comments. Note: I’m sure like many today they are marathoning however many Star Wars film and/or TV shows due to May 4. I’m going to try to get through the first 6 episodes because that’s all I have though no guarantee I’ll get through all today. Also keep in mind that I like Star Wars fine, but I’m not a huge fan as I stopped being one after Revenge of the Sith. That being said I’ll try to be fair here for these films. For me: ⭐️⭐️⭐️1/2. I remember seeing this in theaters when I was a kid and remember enjoying it much like the original trilogy. Today I still enjoy it, but do notice more of its problems like the story involving trade negotiations and what not being uninteresting, the dialogue and performances being awkward sometimes being unintentionally funny, the annoyance and comedy of Jar Jar Binks, Anakin having no literal father (virgin birth?), etc. I don’t think it’s all bad and Jar Jar doesnt quite get on my nerves but it’s close. Jake Lloyd as Anakin is…well…to be nice he tried his best with what was given. Considering all the ridicule he received from his role as Anakin and the life he is in now, I don’t have the heart to say anything more nor negative about his role. Despite the flaws, the effects do hold up pretty well including the worlds they go to. The action along with the John Williams score is awesome. Ewan McGregor is perfect as the young Obi-Wan and look of Darth Maul and his dual lightsaber is cool. I do actually like the Pod Racing scene and it’s one of the reasons I got the N64 game of Star Wars Pod Racer. Not the best of the prequel trilogy, but I think overall solid enough. (edited)
