My fundamental opposition to the idea of "Let bygones be bygones" or "You shouldn't have a problem with what others believe" is that religion, particularly Judaism, Christianity, and Islam, are fundamentally an intellectual vaccuum. Rarely, if ever, do I meet a person of faith who proclaims to believe in the existence of God (and therefore basis his entire life on this belief) on anything even approaching a rationally justifiable reason. To know that ANYTHING is true--or, for that matter, to know that anything is even POSSIBLE--requires, based on reason (which is derived from and constantly tested by reality), not only the conclusions of one's beliefs and convictions, but knowledge of how one knows one is justified in accepting as true that which one holds as being true. In otherwords, to KNOW ANYTHING requires knowledge that one's premises are valid and true, and that given the context of one's premises, the conclusion is logically necessitated and could not be otherwise. To insert ideas such as "it is probable," "it is possible," or "it is likely" does not change this fact. To, for instance, know that something is POSSIBLE, one must have valid reasons (valid premises) on which the knowledge that something is possible (and therefore may or may not be true) is valid and justified. Though there are some theologians who have very intricate arguments for the existence of God, all such arguments I have ever been exposed to are unsupportable rationalizations, often depending upon a lack of evidence or understanding as the logical basis of simply claiming that the cause, then, must be something supernatural. The supernatural, of course, is that which is "superior to" reality, outside of the laws governing reality, and, therefore, that which, by its very nature, that which is ineffable in reality--that which, even philosophically, would be outside the province of any demonstration, evidence, or proof. To label anything as supernatural (and to accept this claim as true) is to confess that one has no valid reason to believe what they believe and never intends to produce any. Further, it is the admission of the idea that there are superior means to gaining knowledge to that faculty, reason, which is the base of all of Man’s knowledge, which will--by necessity of the nature of the supernatural--contradict Man's knowledge by reason--which will unavoidably invalidate Man’s reason by the acceptance of the idea that this divine knowledge is obtained from a superior source of knowledge, namely God. Obtained how? By some ineffable means which cannot be known until one experiences it. "To those who know, no explanation is necessary; to those who do not, none is possible." It is not merely the vicious doctrines of religion, of its evil ethical code accepted and practiced uncritically and against reason, but the fundamental abnegation and rejection of reason as such which I find so evil, repulsive, and disdainful. There is no greater act of evil (as a matter of principle) than a man who declares, in effect, that he, not only is unwilling to think, but is actively in the process of destroying his mind. This act of evil seems innocent and benign, and that is the racket the believers want you to accept. But the destruction of the mind is the basic source of all evil, and the reason why I will NOT simply let bygones be bygones, why I will call out your hatred of reason, why I will denounce your evils, and why I will openly and unapologetically challenge your faith. Those who profess to believe in God because "God is great" or because "God is the creator" or because "God is the source of all good" or because "Life has no meaning or purpose wothout God" or those who claim "Without God there is no objective morality" are those who are openly confessing their own evil with righteous arrogance.
