It depends on definition of free will. I like deterministic theories, but even if we theoretically can predict everything, this doesn't mean we aren't capable to make decisions. Determinism is a believe in causes, so if we mean a freedom from causes, then of course we haven't free will. But, if the definition is ability to make our own decisions, then we have free will. The chain of cause and effect is partially consist of you, your brain and your body. The processes that are produced by your own body (like hormonal changes) is part of you, so these are your decisions. And I really don't like things like "we are slaves of our brain, it's controlling me", because you are your brain. So yeah, we have power of choice

I believe that ultimately it doesn't matter whether it's free will or deterministic. As we all want to live a good and peaceful society and punish these that commit crimes against it, even if the crimes weren't a product of 'free will'. The alternative to me would be complete anarchy, as everyone would just do whatever since they're not responsible for their actions

I would say yes but... A very 'limited' type of freedom bounds to each individual level of self-awareness and the simple fact that we are living beings limited by our body's needs and reactions. So... The question could be: if there is limitations, is it really freedom? ๐ค (edited)
