If the world is governed by physical laws and everything is cause and effect, are your decisions truly yours, or are they just the inevitable results of chemical reactions in your brain? Can responsibility exist without free will?
Do you believe that you are in control of your life through free will? Or do you believe in determinism and destiny?
Time Displacement is used to describe the negative outcomes when media use displaces conductive or more meaningful activities. Addiction framing may equate this as a result of media technology being like a drug. But deficient decision making caused by tech media is linked to habitual behaviors as… read more
1. A Universal Measure of Truth They say art imitates life, and equally, life responds by imitating art. But there is a second, darker truth We've learned from history: mankind rarely learns from history. Instead, we seem trapped in a loop, repeating the mistakes of the past constantly and… read more
Recently rediscovering Path of Exile 2. I'm really starting to appreciate how they're balancing determinism with random drops. Not as forgiving as Last Epoch, but still pretty exciting as a more skill-based I-ARPG. Also: I'm choosing the bear, too. 😍 (edited)

Perhaps the saddest aspect of Eren’s character is that he became a prisoner of the very freedom he sought. Once he touched Historia’s hand, he gained access to the memories of the future. He realized that his path—including the deaths of his comrades and the Rumbling—was already set in stone. He… read more
It is all about Determinism. Determinism As you may have already guessed, I am essentially an amateur philosopher. People are often defined by what they do, especially professionally, but seeing how I don't do anything professionally, I have to define 'what I am' in other contexts, and 'who I… read more
I believe The second coming of christ is 100% not Jesus coming down in a carriage with white horses. But it will be something more profound. Jesus / Christ consciousness will be awakening in every one of us. A heart awakening. An awakening of choice and free will. It will be his truth and spirit… (edited) read more

For those who don't know, determinism is basically the idea that reality plays out like a rube-goldberg machine or in other words, your whole life is determined by the set circumstances of your birth, and everything that follows is predictable. In this way, free will doesn't exist except as an… (edited) read more
Reading time: 5 to 7 minutes. > Superdeterminism Experiments violating Bell's inequalities force scientists to abandon one of two fundamental principles: realism (the belief that objects have definite, inherent properties beyond observation) and locality (the idea that things affect each other… (edited) read more
Computational irreducibility can be looked at as a way to reconcile determinism and free will in that there are fixed underlying rules, but you can’t know the outcomes of those rules unless you watch them unfold. Wolfram’s principle of Computational Irreducibility plays a key role in this view.… read more
My dedication to everything Berserk related even is endless and eternal, ever since I was a kid and now that I am an Adult I truly believe this is the greatest story ever told with so much depth and violent inquiry into the intricacies of ethics, monism vs dualism, free will vs determinism and… read more

The situation is worse than I thought. God plays dice, and the dice are loaded.

Who can truly sort this out.. I tend towards a sort of Compatibilism argument myself Tell everyone your hunch or arguments 🙏

If there is a shortest unit of length (the Planck length) could there also be a shortest unit of time? If so, time would not pass fluidly but as a series of discrete moments, like frames of animation. If hard determinism is also true, then we are essentially characters in a film in which events can… (edited) read more
God isn't seperate from people. It's the people with their brains that try to think that, without knowing God is doing their thinking. I never believed in fate, just determinism. It's through countless books of science and philosophy that I realize it's all just our brain, it's like it's swimming… (edited) read more
Do you believe in free will? Determinism? I tend to fall into a form of the free will camp that also acknowledges that agency is founded by the context and historical circumstances of an action. Ultimately I do take solace in the notion that people have some agency over their actions though.
Do we have free will, or are our actions predetermined by factors beyond our control?
I’m looking for someone who takes an opposing view on the topic of free will to chat with. *edit* I hold the view that hard determinism is true (edited)

This might still be the best live-action depiction of the cartoonish angel and devil conversations. The cinematography is excellent showing the conflict within Mills and it allows the viewer to contemplate are the events depicted an example of determinism or free will. Did John Doe stack the deck… read more

This poem is Internal Gloom. Scotch with the zone I glone. Ripples of what will never be entrapped in the tomb of an External Glome. Curved arrows pointing to directions of the same things. Do humans have the ability to make choices freely or if our actions are predetermined by factors such as genetics, environment, or past experiences. What are your thoughts on this?🤔
Seems like a kinda obvious statement. They say the palm is a map. Lines etched before you ever learned to grip a pen, before you had the strength to clench a fist. People call them fate lines, life lines, love lines, as if someone pressed their stylus into wet clay at the hour of your making. But when I trace mine, I don’t see a map. I… (edited) read more
Let’s agree to disagree. Such a polite burial, really. A handshake over the grave of an argument neither of us wanted to finish digging.
