Hikikomoris in America

If you haven't heard that word before, then you might be one. XD A "hikikomori" is a male who literally shuts himself out of society by choice. Believing that they'll never be able to adapt to society and its expectations or definitions of what a successful male should be. They tend to suffer from mental illnesses(or none) and do not wish to be seen, known, talked to or even touched by anyone. The situation is worsened by the fact that society has unrealistic standards for men that the Hikikomori cannot meet. Either by choice or consequence. Ideals propagated by all sources, both media and word-of-mouth. Hikikomori spend their days locked in their rooms, playing video games, watching TV, or sleeping an unhealthy amount of time on their days off. Now, some men in America have fallen into this exact category and it is troublesome and disheartening for those who know these men because society tells us that those types of people are often criminals or they have something to hide. No... I believe these men have been broken to the point where they no longer have the will to try and be part of society. They loath humans even though they understand that not everyone is terrible. But they do not wish to risk involving themselves with disappointment and would rather spend their time developing themselves... even if that means living alone. Do not expect these men to be willing to be around others. Do not criticize them for not wanting to be social. An most importantly; do not push these men to change. The result may very well be the end of their lives.

I actually was this for 5 years straight between 18-23. I had a GPA of 4.4 and free college because of my dad's military service in Iraq. I could've done something good but my mental disorder kicked in and I gave into the depression, social anxiety and thoughts of isolation. Doing better now tho. Got a job and earned my own car and drivers license in less than a year. Imo I'm prolly doing better than most out there rn despite the thoughts still constantly pulling at my mind at night because of how overwhelming modern society is. Can only look ahead and make plans tho. (edited)
