Question

I have signed up for starnow for those who don't know what startnow is it's for people who want to be actors plus more things - I want to be an actor and this is my first step in progress of becoming one I'd be exited to just be a  'extra person ' while starting off - I have Anxiety so that's why I'm asking for people to pray for me 😅

Given an assumption that New Zealand is no different than anywhere else in the industry, sites like Star Now or Backstage (who purchased them) are generally an absolute, last ditch effort for casting. It does not mean you won't get cast through a service like that, only that the really good parts never get there.

With makeup and green screen you can get virtually any actor to look the part of any role, however the amount of time spent in post or makeup it's usually not worth the the production time or effort. Thus, make sure your one sheet has four to five diverse looks you can produce easily. Even if you only run off 20 or 30 at a time, don't use a color inkjet to produce it; use a color laser printer on heavy gloss stock.

Let's not forget the acting. Contact every casting agency attached to every current production, as well as ones use locally over the past year. It's okay to email a PDF one sheet, but only when you're going to physically mail them one on heavy gloss stock immediately thereafter. Do make sure that every image on the one sheet represents how you currently could look, if asked.

It is imperative you have at least three good monologues prepared that highlight the diversity of your abilities. It matters not if you look the role. In fact, not looking the role and nailing a monologue is even that much more impressive. If you're able to meet with a casting agency, even if they are not casting for a production that you could have a role in, don't hesitate to go in and do so. It is the rare instance where you don't have the cattle call behind you that will be long remembered.

You don't need prayers or luck. If you have skills and determination, you have all you need to make it.
