Garudan (Tamil/2024/ Prime) Review
This film makes me wonder about actor and director Sasikumar's knack for local gangster films where there is revenge and revenge. He makes the classic 'Subramaniapuram' (2008) with revenge and gore, which laid the ground for 'Gangs of Wasseypur' (2012), he does a 'Vada Chennai' (2018) as an actor where he plays a do-gooder goon and gets killed for the good and that is the same in the case with 'Garudan' too. The same is true with the National Award-winning actor Samuthirakaini too who was seen in 'Subramaniapuram'. Damn! Another case in point is Soori's role. Like 'Viduthalai' (2023), here too he plays the annoying do-gooder who gets bashed badly till the hero in him gets awakened. He is riveting and a surprising element though. While the film is fresh in incorporating local culture and politics with cinema, it does drag and annoy. But it is the characters and their performances that make up for the film's intriguing points. The score and action sequences are top-class. Watch it over drinks with friends. #movies #cinema #tamil #amazonprime #primevideo
