Monkey Man
Dev Patel pulled an Orson Welles here by writing, directing and starring in Monkey Man. A really fun and thoughtful action movie. During the first half I was thinking it was a decent John Wick clone, using some spiritual and political elements as camouflage. I was wrong. It's a political and spiritual movie camouflaged by elements of John Wick. Which makes it way more interesting than any of the Wicks. Most of the fighting involves hand to hand combat, which also holds your attention better than people just shooting at each other. Despite the left wing politics, it does not hold back on gore or brutality. I rate it 893 out of 1000. (edited)
