Why discard ethics for a hypothetical tech utopia?

If there happens to be any geneticists, A.I programmers or developer's, biomechanical scientists, doctors or PhD certified theorists, biomedical engineers or STEM field majors reading this, for most of the leading developments or new groundbreaking tech in your field that may or may not be controversial, do you at all consider your gut instinct telling you something isn't in the best interest of the populace or do you not dwell in thinking about human ethics? Why or why not is this something that occupies your mind? Do you truly care for the welfare of your fellow man or do you simply wish to be apart of another stage of human advancement? Would love full honesty and rationale if you can get what I'm asking.

This is called "false dichotomy". It's a logical fallacy in which multiple options are presented as the mutually exclusive without having grounds to do so. Another issue is just lumping in the whole "science" in the mix. In fact, none of the scientific results can even be unethical in itself, however crazy it may sound. Science is a system of methods for determining what "is" to put it bluntly. There might be unethical research that contributed towards discovery, there might be unethical application of the acquired knowledge, but to a scientific result itself ethical categories are not applicable. And finally, why is new bad and old good? An AI can be used in an unethical way, but a hammer can be used in an unethical way too. Let's get rid of every single technological and scientific advance and people will be applying rocks picked up from the ground in an unethical way. The problem is not with science or technology, the problem is how to build society. It's a perennial issue which is often being mascaraded as science vs ethics. There's no solution so far and impeding, stopping or reversing scientific progress wouldn't help to solve it either.
