I had been writing fanfictions for about 5 years now, every fanfiction story i start i say this is the one, I'll definitely complete it, the idea is exciting, i start outlining, plotting, etc...write ten chapters, then drop... Get bored, stop writing for months, then come up with another interesting idea, and repeat the loop. What is preventing me from commiting to one story idea and finishing it? Is it because the intent behind writing the story itself is lacking? Is it because my drive isn't strong enough? My purpose in writing fanfictions had always been wish fulfilment, and a little bit of a desire to improve my writing craft, I'm not confident in writing original fiction. Had anyone suffered from this same problem? I start to doubt whether i truly love writing or simply like brainstorming. (edited)

I know your exact feelings bro. I have planned over 150 projects currently. And about 20 scrapped projects. I have only completed one poetry book, about 200 poems, and several episodes of multiple story series, then a handful of chapters of a few books I have planned. Point being is, sometimes you gotta work on one project while putting another one on hold. But one thing you don't wanna do is completely destroy or get rid of something you've already written into. Keep those 10 chapters you wrote because one day you just may revisit it and finish the project for good. And you'll feel all the more better when you do. And the other user who suggested you start writing short stories is kinda right. Focus on shorter projects, one you know you'll be able to complete. Write a project that finishes at 10 chapters. And keep doing so until you're able to finish 15 chapters, then 20, etc. Sometimes you gotta think even smaller than that ans just write short stories of these fanfic stories you wanna write. Eventually you start gaining more mental ground on where exactly you wanna take it
