The Terminator is better than Terminator 2: Judgement Day
Hear me out. Judgement Day is awesome. It's almost a perfect movie. I've seen it more time than I can count. But The Terminator is better, and here's why. 1. Judgement Day owes the plot to The Terminator. Beat for freaking beat, Judgement Day is practically a carbon copy of the first movie. 2. The Franchise is rooted in horror. The original T-800 ripped a guy's heart out within the first minute of encountering a human. It's that terrifying power and brutality that makes skynet seem so dangerous. In Judgement Day, the T-800 never kills anyone, he cracks jokes, and wipes away a kid's tears. 3. The Terminator is written perfectly. It's tight. Every scene, ever word, every sound has a purpose -- there isn't an ounce of fat on it. Judgement Day has several moments/scenes that drone on just a bit. 4. The Terminator was written and filmed before either James Cameron or Arnold Schwarzenegger were household names. It was a low budget movie, and its success came out of nowhere. By the time Judgement Day was released, both Cameron and Arnold were huge Hollywood staples. 5. The only part of Judgement Day that is different from The Terminator is the plot point where they go after skynet by attacking cyberdyne systems -- but that whole chapter was originally written for the first movie, and parts of it were even filmed, and later edited out. 6. The T-1000 was also originally supposed to be in The Terminator, but Cameron decided against it because 1984 technology couldn't create the effects that 1991 eventually could. 7. Arnold is way more muscular in The Terminator.
