Have we hit the "human knowledge" inflection point?
With the sum of all knowledge being on the internet and the fast advances we are seeing with AI, will we see people lose interest in studying the arts and sciences? We all remember math class where we would roll our eyes and ask "why learn this if we have calculators" -- will we start seeing this same phenomenon spread into other subjects? AI is on track to become to knowledge-based work as calculators are to basic arithmetic. (edited)

People who aren't interested in these things never studied these things in the first place, so there will be no loss. The people who have interest in expanded education won't be put off by the existence of greater capacity for knowledge, on the contrary it will lead to more fields of study for those already interested in learning.

I have faith that we haven’t; to quote Tommy Lee Jones: “Fifteen hundred years ago, everybody knew the Earth was the center of the universe. Five hundred years ago, everybody knew the Earth was flat, and fifteen minutes ago, you knew that humans were alone on this planet. Imagine what you’ll know tomorrow.” -“Men in Black” (1997)😸

I don't think so and I think we need to make changes to culture surrounding knowledge. Right now it's culturally popular to be an influencer and essentially connect or create fan bases, which I somewhat view as narcissistic in nature but since so many are doing it, it's the popular thing to do. If we could shift this perspective over to gaining the most knowledge or perhaps inspire people to learn it wouldn't be this way. AI in some way, may help with this issue. It may learn to understand specific people and help tune their teaching or how it relies info to people better than any teacher. I have big hopes for AI so we'll see.
