Does anyone else feel weird about telling people you don't eat meat or dairy?

Question

On one hand I don't care what people think, but at the same time it's like I know THEY might care on a first pass? I've been instantly dismissed for being vegan, and other times not said anything till later, till PAST the initial screening. The latter has always worked out better and I get a more positive response, which makes sense because by that time they see my opionions as valuable. Still, I secretly get a little anxious when the time comes to get it out there. What do you think?

I've also experienced this. I've never once pushed being vegan on anyone, so much so that sometimes my college students forget I'm vegan. I'm always open to discuss why I'm vegan with someone, but I'd never try to guilt someone into becoming vegan. I don't understand why non vegans get so upset about it.

No one cares what you eat unless you try to put some moral superiority over them because of what you put in your mouth. I mean to be fair, most people would go vegan if they had to butcher and process their own meat, but it comes from the magical land of somewhere and gets put on the grocery store shelf every day. You should see what people say when I tell them what I eat.

I have never met a Vegan in my life, including family, that has NOT acted like it was a cult. What's one thing about cults? They are always trying to get more members and recruit. Every single time they will try to convert you to join.

Curious myself as I'm running into a similar issue though opposite direction. Due to dietary restrictions/digestive issues, I'm having to push more keto. I'm vegan friendly, but I've been shut down before any of the meaningful conversations start let alone disclaimers. I don't know why it turns into such a contentious issue that it revolves into guilt/shame/manipulation tactics.

I think that meat and dairy are both so built into society that it's impossible not to talk about these subjects very soon without just lying about yourself. I know I'm not helping the stereotype or anything about us, but I'd also rather not lie because my values about this matter so much to me. I am still very friendly towards those who eat meat even in front of me and I cannot say I've received any backlash but I've definitely mentioned that I'm vegan a fair amount of times.

Due to dietary issues I couldn’t have gluten and diary. Than I also became a vegetarian. For years now. Many people are understanding. I’m not anti meat or dairy users. It’s the way people see animals as a product that I’m not liking.
