Prompt: The attack was over in seconds
The attack was over in seconds. I stood there mouth agape as I looked at the carnage that used to be my livingroom. The tree my family had lovingly decorated together just last night lay across the floor asunder. The water it still had in the tree holder was still currently leaking out onto the carpet soaking it and possibly ruining the electric toy train that was to run around the tree. The ornaments were strewn about the room islands unto themselves. Displaced in the wake of destruction that occurred. Shaking myself from my shocked stupor I moved toward the debris. Picking up a fallen orniment. I held up the broken golden ball. It looked perfect on one side but must gave hit something... maybe the nearby coffee table on its downward decent. It now sported a cracked and caved in side. It was Sharp and broken. The deep black void inside exposed and gaping. Last night little Nina had insisted she had wanted to put that very ornament near the top of the tree. Holding it like a precious gift, Nina had finally consented to allow me to lift her little 2 year old form up so she could place the choosen ornament at the top herself... I was continplating if there was anyway to salvage the thing, when the cold, chilly, moisture found its way to my sock. An unpleasant thrill ran through me. Oh yeah, the water! Dropping the broken orniment, I rushed to the hall linen closet and fethched several towels. Tossing them onto the soaking wet floor to try and salvage the carpet and my sanity. Socks already damp I stepped on the towel as stomping grapes into wine- attempting to get as much water off the floor as possible. Each step I took my upset grew when I got a hold of the assailant... realizing the toy train would need a week in a rice bag, I stopped to go do that! That's when I crossed paths with the one who held my ire currently. I growled down at the black four legged furry one. "Bad cat!" I snapped. " I told you no, no climbing the tree!" Fluffy just gazed at me with wide yellow eyes and then let out a soft "Meow" delicate as a bell before padding over cautiously to nuzzle against my legs. I wanted to stay angry to be upset, but I could already feel the anger dissipating into thin air. My shoulders sagged as I let out a sigh. " Come here" I said leaning down to scoop her up. "Let's see if we can fix this." I smiled and nuzzle her soft furry face as Fluffy let out a purr. It was a mess but we'd clean it up. Then I'd try another tactic to keep my furry friend from a repeat performance.
