Why do we always have to try to frame it in a "personal" way to get men to understand violence and cruelty against women?

Why do we always have to say, think if it was your sister or mother? How about simply that she's a HUMAN? Is being a human not enough? Does being female somehow make her less of a human, and you need to apply some sort of ownership or kinship to the concept of a woman in order to care about her?
