Sleep Fact! 😴💤
In mid 1959 a radio personality called Peter Tripp decided to do an event for Dimes March where he stayed awake for a total of 201 hours (roughly 8 days and 3 hours). When the event began he was in high spirits but his mood and overall personality started changing into a more irritable one after just 2 days. He was an extremely likeable person but by only 3-4 days he was snapping at and verbally abusing the staff at the radio station. Somehow, he managed to succeed! Hooray...- or not. He passed out on the 202nd hour and slept for 3 days straight. After he woke up, he reported feeling normal and went about his work. However, his family, colleagues and friends reported a drastic change in behaviour and personality. He was a lot more negative and easy to anger. He lost his job and his wife after some time, and although no one can know for sure if the cause was the sleep event, it's what people in his life point to when say speak about the change in his personality. Now, modern studies have looked into sleep and how sleep can cause issues with the brain or to be exact "brain chemistry". It's no secret that our brain runs on chemicals, or well produces certain chemicals and maintains others to keep our health and mental health intact. Easiest example is dopamine. Most people produce dopamine after something rewarding and they would feel happy and fulfilled. However, people with chrinic depression can't produce a lot of dopamine. Hence, medication is needed to maintain the chemical balance in their minds. Brain is complex, that's what I'm getting at. Anyway, studies showed that people who slept 8 hours and people who slept 6 hours performed well in tasks and did not show lag in their performance or a difference in their behaviour (right away, that is). The 6 hour sleep people did seem to get more irritable over time. This was due to something called "Sleep Debt" your brain needs the 8 hour sleep to get rid of all the junk and toxic shi* in your brain, however, if you don't give it the full 8 hours, the excess junk will pile. Ever passed out on a weekend for a long time after a tough and restless week? That's your brain demanding the extra time to get rid of the junk, however if this persists, it can cause extreme issues in your mental health. Oh, by the way, males need at least 8-9 hours of sleep and women need 10-12 hours (not ideal in this economy but the body does not care) to be healthy and productive members of society! If you've read my rambling this far, tell me some bizzare nightmare that you've had~
