Autism month

April is autism awareness month. It is odd that Autism or Neurodiversity is not an interest tag here? What is Neurodiversity? Neurodiversity is the term used to describe natural variations in the human brain. It relates to differences in the way we think, process, learn and behave. Most people are neurotypical meaning that the brain functions and processes in the way that society expects. 1 in 7 people are neurodivergent meaning their brain functions differently in one or more ways than is considered standard or typical. Their unique traits are often characterized as 'neurodiverse conditions'. ADHD, Autism, Dyspraxia, Dyslexia, Dyscalculia, Dysgraphia, and Tourette's syndrome are all examples of neurodiverse conditions. Are you neurodiverse? If so, what is in your grab bag? I am thankful that they have stopped using some “labels” like higher and lower functioning autism, Asperger's Syndrome (I know people that have been formerly diagnosed choose to use it. To each their own), and mentally retard. I am autistic plus I have (hyperactive) ADHD, Tourette’s, Lexical-gustatory synesthesia (if you do not know what this is, I experience phantom tastes when hearing, speaking, reading, or thinking about words, in summary), Hyperlexia & Meares-Irlen syndrome ☺️ It is strange that some people go crazy thinking that autism is a disability but I think it is a superpower. I can literally SEE music, TASTE colours and I can absorb information quicker than the average person and remember it longer. I do not require as much sleep or food as others do. I am optimistic and non-combative. I am glad Autism Awareness is picking up speed so the only reference point that exists is not Rain Man.

This is a great post. Thanks for taking the time to share your experience and help us understand a different point of view. Maybe try contacting hello@boo.world and asking if they'll add a tag? They've added a few new tags lately on request. It can't hurt to ask. They might say no but they might say yes!
