This is a staggering number and raises serious questions about the credibility and integrity of our elected representatives. The report also reveals that many of these representatives have been accused of other crimes against women, including molestation, harassment, and cruelty. This is a clear indication that the safety and security of women are not a priority for these individuals. The irony is that these representatives are responsible for making laws that are meant to protect women from such crimes. Myth: World's largest democracy Reality: Failed democracy.. Keeping Aside the gender specific crime numbers/allegations, because law shouldn't be gender specific or favoring some politicians or bureaucrats.. Handing over power to a specific gender isn't right too..(see what's happening with 498A- India's most misused section, later it would be BNS 69). While it's totally agreeable that safety of women in this country is a serious concern, more serious punishments should be added to the existing ones and more to be added. Laws should incite fear into the individuals preventing them from doing a crime and also punish those individuals who use laws for their own grudges, destroying lives of people by false allegations. Law should safeguard victims and punish the culprits, sadly that's not the case in India.
