TLDR: What would you recommend to a complete newbie to learn from, please? Any general tips are welcomed too. One of my goals for this year is to get drawing again. For context, I'm 33 and I used to love drawing when I was 10 or 11. I remember starting high school (UK so age 11) and seeing people drawing amazingly. I compared myself to them and felt demotivated to draw. Honestly, I was bad. It was mainly stick figures but I would draw scenes and it would light up my imagination. I did do art in high school but I wasn't very motivated generally during this period. I would like to get back into drawing but I'm not sure where to start. I love the style of pop art. I enjoy seeing people represent their DnD characters in drawings. I get the possible best thing to start would be picking up a pencil and crack on, but tips are very welcomed. Please and thank you. What would you recommend a newbie to start learning from, please? Any general tips are welcomed too.

I'm still an art newbie myself but sometimes I use QuickPoses (or similar) to try to practice figure drawing. My other advice would be to make sure you stretch your wrists out regularly (nobody wants carpal tunnel) and warm up by drawing shapes and squiggles before you actually art for the day. ^^

Simple shapes and drawing what you see. Breaking what you see into shapes, then finally look at how light places itself. Practice different types of shading from crosshatch to smudging, then slowly rice and repeat until you feel a small degree of satisfaction.

On days that you feel inspired to draw, sit and draw, even if you just scribble. If there is a particular style you'd like to lead more about look it up and really look at the work. Start by copying to get the hang of it then you'll find yourself developing your own way as you play around with your own ideas. Hope this helps and that you'll have fun.
