Uh shouldn't those titles be swapped? History has only made us more distrustful. It could be argued though that between the harsh conditions, divided stances, loose legalese town to town, and shaky beginnings created a distrustful government from the start. It's an interesting conundrum. Look up about the "whiskey tax" in the 1700's there have always been mistrust and dissatisfaction in our government. Our forefathers made this country because they didn't trust the government only for the people to not trust our forefathers. So for a government that was made for the people but is truly designed to restrict us is it really any surprise of the mistrust we have in our "leaders"? (edited)
