Bank cameras operate 24/7 and to reduce the sheer size of memory that this would take, you will HAVE to reduce the frame rate and quality dramatically. To even suggest a video camera running 24/7 while including playback (meaning it will have to he stored somewhere) to have clear quality is very expensive to do. Some security cameras today have improved greatly though. The NASA image you presented is different. It's a single image, not a recording, and it's only a single frame. You can have high quality resolution in this case. The comparison is a joke, i get it, but it's a false equivalence.

Well, if the camera were bigger than the bank, we wouldn't have this problem, would we?? Space telescopes are big. Bank cameras are usually smaller'n a shoebox. I know, I know... They just need to upgrade to 4k cameras or something. Apparently stores & banks are cheap and don't want to shell out the couple bucks for better equipment? Go fig... (edited)
