If you live close by and you can move to live with him.., then everything is fine. Or him moving to live with you. If you are too far away then the long distance relationship online its more likely to be prone to fail.

I feel the exact same, I had some high expectations for someone, and in the end I was just trying to save something that couldn't be saved, no matter what I did. And it hurts when it falls apart, knowing you put so much effort in to try and save it. So yes I 100% feel your pain. Im sorry you had to go through that

Maintaining a relationship with a mature person takes work but it isn't hard. This principles are simple, good communication, respect, compassion. So if a relationship feels hard to maintain it's likely the other partner doesn't care or isn't mature enough yet to handle it. That's just my personal experience.

If you had high expectations, then, odds are anything they do that doesn't meet or falls short of those standards, will feel like they failed you. People make mistakes, so you probably shouldn't judge yourselves too harshly.
