Struggling.
I'm joining this app as a way to reach out and ask if anyone has ever suffered a break-up after over a year with someone. If you've ever been told 'I love you, just not the way you want me to'. And what you did to handle it? I'm struggling to move on and accept this, because I truly felt he was my person. My everything. It really feels like a terrible battle.

I'm sorry you're struggling 🙏🏽 after my 12 year marriage (15 years total relationship), it was hard but the last 4 years of my marriage were harder. That's when i started letting go, because the fighting and disrespect were unbearable, couples therapy didn't help, and i had to mourn the loss of the future i thought i had with him. For me, it made me feel better to know i didn't have to fight everyday anymore, my peace helped me as well. I made new friends, vented for hours at a time to my best friend at the time, who then would vent about their issues to me for hours. It was mutually helpful. I needed to write it out, cry it out, scream it out. I went on long hikes, that exhausted me and made me feel stronger.

I got divorced after a 12-year relationship and had to learn that sometimes love isn't enough. Excluding his abusive tendencies, I loved him with everything I had. I carried him through the hardest times in his life and did my best to move mountains for him. However, nothing I did was ever going to make him love me as I deserved to be loved in return. Deciding to leave was the hardest thing I've ever done and I truly believe we will both be better for it. I already am and I have faith that he will find his person someday too. The best advice I have is to let yourself grieve. You're allowed to be heartbroken and to miss the idea of what you thought you'd have together in the future. When you're ready, pick yourself back up and remind yourself that you're worthy of finding your perfect partner and have faith that you will.

All the time you spent on them is now time you can spend on yourself. They were the person then, but you'll find another "the person" if you learn enough about yourself and what you like to do. Pick up some hobbies. Meet new people while you do. Make new positive experiences. From time to time, you'll absolutely think of them. But the longer you're apart the further it'll be between the waves of emotion that brings
