I’m Complaining

I’m feeling very put off by the dating scene and women my age as of late. Women my age have multiple kids and are at a point in their lives where they seemingly need everything (all at once) that normally takes years to grow into. The careers, more degrees, the houses, the cars, the kids, more kids, the custody arrangements, the travel plans, and the list goes on and on. It’s just too much to think about and I’ve always thought these decisions were made together. Trying to date someone my age requires an attorney and a research assistant just to get started. I’ve spent my adult life making decisions to simplify my life, not expand it into every need possible. I don’t want any of those things. I just want to enjoy my life and be grateful for the people in it. Is this why middle age men date younger women? I guess I can see the appeal now that the women my age come with a mountain of baggage. It’s just to the point where I can’t even get five minutes into a conversation with a women before it’s all about their kids needs and their obligations. Short of giving up, should I just look for someone younger? Or that unicorn woman in her late 30s without all the things?

I'm really appreciating your vulnerability right now. I don't think it's just you and I don't think it's just men or necessarily an age thing. Women are having a hard time as well. Younger women will also come with their own stage of life growing pains. We are all works in progress and we don't necessarily need to be less of a mess to be in a relationship. We just need to learn to become experts at vulnerably communicating with each other about that mess, so that we can grow and heal WITH each other. You may only need to find somebody who is genuinely willing to grow and heal on the same path with you as you do the same. It can be hard to find that person who is willing to grow towards you, but wait for them because once you find them it will be worth it. Hang in there Matt! 🙏💪
