Since it seems that most people here don't know what philosophy is in their post, so let's start with a simple one. How would you solve this?

Guy mowing his lawn questioning why there are train tracks in his garden. He also is the only one not casting a shadow, so probably some sort of undead creature awoken from a centuries long slumber to do some household chores, coming to terms with the fact that things aren't what they used to be.

Without breaking the hypothetical, the moral answer is to not touch the switch. Changing the tracks makes you culpable for the single person's death- not touching it does not give you culpability for the others. Utilitarianism is evil.

I agree with a lot of the answers here. I remember discussing this in Philosophy class. At the time, I allowed myself to be placed in the situation where there were only two options. But over the years, I’ve come to realize that in real life the more creatively you consider the issue, the more options appear. To me, what feels so cold and calculating about Utilitarianism is that it accepts the idea that it okay to hurt some people to help others. And off you go, morally justified. It can eliminate the need for additional thought and creative solutions.

🤔 do you want the standard answer or the right answer. Standard answer kill the one person. As one person is not as important as many. My personal solution you're holding a bar jamming in the tracks. Derail the f****** trolley. The friction from the wheels on the road will stop it before it hits either path saving both paths of people and more than likely everybody on board.

Stop the train. Blare the horn. Clear people off the track. They shouldn't be there anyway.

Hit as many people as possible and sue the train company for "experiencing traumic events" on the job.

Easy, make sure to switch tracks at the last second so the trolley derails. The answer that is supposed to be the better amswer is switch the tracks and yell and make as much noise as i can as I'm running. Most likely I've killed someone. So if you looked at it from other perspectives it was my action that got one person killed. If i didn't do anything i had nothing to do with the 5 people getting killed. Not my fault. It was already going to happen whether or not i was there. The one person only gets killed if I do something.
