The Boy

Question

There once was a boy.

He dreamed of love

Dreamed of peace

These dreams were so vivid.

He could make out smells, sights, and feelings

But then he met a girl.

He loved her with everything he could

But this boy is cursed.

This boy is not meant to love.

The girl, feeling betrayed by the boys curse,

Decided to take her life.

The boy felt so lost.

So confused.

What did he do wrong?

Why was he not good enough?

Why did he kill her with his love?

Surely this is just bad luck?

The boy took a breath, and gathered up his courage.

Once again, he pulled his heart from his chest.

Handing it to a girl he trusted.

But she didn't love him.

She loved the attention he gave her.

She loved owning his heart.

She cheated, time and time again

The boy had doubts, but he pushed them aside.

In order to love her to his full capacity.

But once again, the boys curse struck.

Another life, pulled from his hands.

The boy couldn't take it anymore.

He laid his fist into the floor

Again and again.

Blood dripping from his knuckles, the boy made himself a promise.

“I will NEVER love another!” he screamed.

But he was wrong.

A siren led him astray

Right into her friends arms.

The rock he believed to be his savior.

The boy looked up to the girl.

Her eyes were like fields of grass.

Just like the ones he used to dream about.

How could he not, fall for such kind eyes.

Eyes are the windows to the soul, right?

The boys smile returned and he felt his heart return to his chest.

The boy wasted no time, rescuing the girl from her evil lover.

With no second thought. The boy pulled his heart out again and handed it to the girl.

She smiled and promised to protect it. Forever.

The boy was beyond ecstatic.

He couldn't stop smiling.

He lived every day for her sake.

But one day, the boy saw a letter on the girls bed.

It was her cousin.

The boy felt his chest grow cold, and the girl felt the boys heart begin to shrink.

Kneeling on the floor, tears across his face the boy held the letter.

“How could she..” he thought.

Thoughts began to fill the boys mind.

“I'm not enough”

“It's all happening again”

“What about me is wrong?”

The girl, pulled the boy close and apologized.

But the boy didn't want an apology.

She might as well have admitted then and there that it was intentional.

eyes filled with pools of tears, he brought his gaze up the meet her own.

“Help me..” the boy cried out.

“Show me what's wrong. I'll change. I'll become just like them. So you'll love me forever. Right? Please” The boy whined.

Every word slipping from his lips like a prayer to a higher power. To not take another love from him.

He wouldn't make it

Not again.

Years passed.

Everytime the boy thought he had become perfect, another letter would arrive.

Another affair brought to light.

And with every letter, the boys heart shrank more.

After four long years, another letter arrived.

The eighth letter.

And as the boy scanned the message

His heart fell apart.

Too small and too fragile to be reassembled.

“I can fix it..” she cried, realizing what her actions had led to.

But it was too late.

The boys heart was gone

The boys eyes became dark, and his gaze seemed long.

The boy stood from the tear-soaked carpet and walked out the door.

The boy wandered for a long time.

But then, here comes another girl.

This girl, was like him.

She reminded him of his youthful trusting nature.

She handed her heart to the boy, and as she did, all the boy could see was his heart breaking again.

He looked to the ground and handed it back to the girl, but as He did.

He felt the new girls heart shrink.

But he had no heart to give, so he ignored it. And gave her heart back anyway.

He watched as he heart broke, The same as his had.

He didn't know her heart was so fragile.

He didn't mean to hurt her.

But it was too late.

Her blood covering the soft wood floor.

A knife, bloody and laid aside.

The new girl had died.

And the boy was reminded of his curse.

The boy can never be loved.

Because he is cursed

He is destined to die

Alone and scared.

A knife spins across his fingertips

A simple motion really.

A brace, and a pull.

Blood drips down the boys chest.

The hole where his heart should reside, now filled.
