Help
I'm 18 and I've settled on a job id enjoy doing. I want to become a veterinarian but it's 7-8 years of college and I'm scared id fail and left with crazy debt. Now to help with that I would join the military and they would pay for a lot of my college. So even if I did end up failing I wouldn't be screwed. Id do 4 years in the military as a vet tech and 2years of school in the last 2 years of the military. Then continue school when I'm out of the military. I don't want to join the military for many reasons. I know with the military paying for my school and FAFSA helping as well id be more comfortable while in school. I'm giving me a year before I join the military to try to find a way to make money before I have to make a decision because time is passing me by. I need help from people who have made it. I was going to start a detailing business but the cost to start the business up is a good amount and my truck is breaking down. I need to succeed. People telling me I have time and to relax isn't helping. I need a way to succeed quick so I don't have to go to the military to pay for college. What side hustles can I do that make money. Modeling? I mean there has to be a couple. I won't be completely on my own I'll be living with a friend and have a spouse who is bringing in income too. So if we both make 22 a hr. 1 person part-time and one full time will we be ok? (edited)

The military is rough. Had a friend who went in for medical. Played hell on his mental health. And it wasn't easy for him to become a nurse after. There is a path for it, but they gave 0 help. Military is a very long commitment that can be great, or mess you up big time. Almost better getting a part time job to help pay for it. Or finding a place of work that will pay for schooling, but the schooling will be part time and take longer.

Modeling is difficult. Especially where you are. If you're going to walk the runway you'll need to be in New York or LA. At least in the US. Another difficulty is your size. Ideally, 6 ft to 6'1 for males. Your peak age is 18 to 24. You may also be to build up. When designers go to shows. They bring one size. The model fits the size perfectly or they don't walk. Acting may be a much easier gig because there are roles advertised nearly everywhere. And there isn't a specific age or height to worry about. You do need to be prepared at a moment's notice. Literally. If they're looking for a specific image type, it will be announced the day before and generally you show up after first sending a headshot and full body shot. Depending on what the need is you get paid about 200 bucks a day. Most of it is standing some place or walking someplace, but it's also how people notice you. And at some point to direct your may say, can you say this or do that? If you can, your pay gets doubled or more. Sometimes they need a stand in and you just have to be the right height and body type. When they're setting up the lighting it takes awhile and the actor is in their trailer. The stand in is what they use to set the lighting and shot. If you're close enough a look, then all of the back shots or hand shots maybe yours instead of the actors. Again, things like that bump up your pay. You look like you might be able to do stunts. You can get some training and be a stunt double which can make a significant amount of money. It also has its downside. Sometimes you get hurt. Daniel Radcliffe stunt double for Harry Potter is now a quadriplegic. And of course you can always audition for roles. Some people have natural talent and acting ability. Others don't but can be trained. My nephew hit Broadway at 14, starred in a Netflix series at 15, went to college for degree in dramatic arts, and upon graduation was faced with everything shutting down from covid and a writers strike. No matter how good you are, there are things that can get in the way that you have no control over. He also models professionally in New York and LA. So it is possible, but it's not something you do in your spare time, acting is a profession.
