Death of Nintendo (2020)

This film gives hope for Philippine Cinema. A story of four friends going through life in the 90's. The depiction of different social classes and how culture paves ways for how life is, is well portrayed in this coming of age classic. From 90's video game consoles to subdivision swimming pools and basketball courts to Holy Week traditions to ultimately traditional circumcision from an albularyo, this movie got it spot on. The attention to detail of the props and the script is totally about the 90s. This movie has multiple scenes about brown outs and how people react to it before. This is a nostalgia film for someone who was a kid in the 90s. Remembering the sights and sounds of it is nice to see in film. Even the Pinatubo eruption became a visual background and a visual interpretation of their own character development. In my opinion this could be comparable to Stand By Me (1986) but this film weighs more for me because I can relate more on how it brings you back to the time of Philippines in the 90's. It gives a flashback of how simple it was when we were kids. Yep, the 90s is a special decade for us. (edited)
