AI's Impact: Promise vs. Peril

75% of Americans believe artificial intelligence will reduce the job market, according to a Gallup Poll conducted in May 2023. So, is AI a helpful tool or a threat to jobs? Since the inception of OpenAI’s ChatGPT many have seen AI as either a helpful tool or as a very real threat to their jobs. Today’s article will be focusing on AI and looking at the good, the bad, and the ugly of AI. As we delve into determining if this technology leads to a bright future. ChatGPT, Adobe Firefly, and SoraAI Video Generation are just a few names of AI tools. ChatGPT is the most well known so we shall talk about its effect on America. By March 2023 Pew Research Center reported that 58% of adults in America knew what ChatGPT was. Along with those numbers 52% of Americans were more concerned than excited about AI use in their daily lives. This shows a trend of wariness towards AI and its uses as it is best to be cautious of new technologies when you do not know about the risks or benefits of it. Shifting our focus from how the public perceives AI, let’s discuss how it is being used in education. Did you know that 69% of students find ChatGPT acceptable to use to research new topics? According to Pew Research, which conducted a survey among children ages 13-17 about their usage of ChatGPT. Of course 57% of those surveyed found that it was unethical to use ChatGPT to write full essays. While 39% found it acceptable to use ChatGPT to solve math equations. This really makes one think if children can see the use of the tool into the future how will it affect the job market. Well, the answer to that question comes a bit sooner than you think. According to The Verge 90% of News Rooms are utilizing some form of AI. AI still has a long way to go before it will be taking any writing jobs as it has a hard time sounding human. That does not mean that it is not being used in helpful ways. Some such ways are spell checking, translation, and coming up with topics to research and dig into. AI won’t only be changing the journalism scene, it will eventually be used in most writing jobs either to come up with ideas for headlines or to help think up some new slogans. There are also the bad parts of AI which have utilized articles from certain publishers without their consent. Utilizing those articles to train the generative AI to sound more human and less robotic. AI can also still be wrong and it is not yet some all knowing machine. Given the amount of false data put on the internet daily, we might not have to worry too much about AI. We will need to continually fact check information gained from it and also utilize this tool in an ethical way. The future looks bright but uncertain on how AI tools will affect our day to day life. #writing #technology #ai

I think it's very helpful and will definitely take jobs. But I think it's going to backfire because there are few jobs that cant be completely or almost complety taken over by AI. Even if it only took 1/5th of jobs in the market over the next decade, what do you do with all those hungry mouths? (edited)
