has everyone heard (if you didn't, i beg you to google it) about that study where scientists scanned a fly's brain, uploaded it into a virtual simulation, and it just started working properly without any training? if not, here's a quick summary:

scientists sliced a real fruit fly‘s brain into 7,000 layers, took 21 million pictures, and manually mapped every single one of the ~130k neurons and 50m connections (called the "connectome"). they literally just rebuilt that exact circuit in a simulation, hooked it up to a virtual fly body, and hit "start."

and it just... worked. the digital brain started firing signals on its own based on that wiring, making the virtual body walk, groom, and stick out its tongue for sugar — all without anyone coding those behaviors in. it's 91-95% accurate to how a real fly acts.

do you understand what it means? it didn‘t learn anything. this isn‘t an ai that was trained to mimic a fly. it‘s a straight-up copy, and it worked like a "real" thing.

this isn't just "impressive", my guys. everything we had before this was just a simulation (like even the most impressive llms we have today) - the system that imitates the result - it's an emulation, it's literally our nervous system - it's us (living beings, i mean), just on a different hardware. but does it really matter if the hardware is carbon or silicone?

we probably shouldn't expect a copy of a human brain anytime soon - according to my calculations, such emulation would consume, like, inappropriate amounts of energy (~atomic powerplant), but if it existed, would you treat it like it's one of us?

So, when should robot/AI rights begin?
